At-Large Senators

At-Large Senators advocate for student needs through legislation. They meet with administrators to enact change on campus to create a better student experience for all.

Ash Elswick

They / Them / Theirs

At-Large Senator Candidate

My name is Ash Elswick and I am double major political science and philosophy with a minor in music from Charlestown, West Virginia. Aside from being a student, I am the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Chair of Chi Omega Sorority, the Event Coordinator of Un-PAC WVU, Treasurer of WVU College Democrats, and a member of the WVU Division of DEI Ambassadors. One interesting fact about me is that I am the founder of a non-profit in name of a WVU student!

I have such a passion for WVU and the comfortability of our Mountaineers. I want every Mountaineer to feel like they have a voice and a place always, making sure they have the resources needed to succeed no matter what their background or identities are because what makes WVU strong is our diversity. Having an advocate is the strongest form of support you can have when it comes to the people that litigate for the student body.

Avery Conner

She / Her / Hers

At-Large Senator Candidate

My name is Avery Conner and I am a political science major and a philosophy minor from Hedgesville, West Virginia. I am an intern for WVU’s Student Government Association and a member of WVU Active Minds. My time as a student is also spent reading, lifting weights, doing yoga, and meditating. A fun fact about me is that I graduated high school an entire year early!

When I arrived on campus at West Virginia University, I was excited, however, the big campus made me feel a bit small. Applying as an intern for Student Government Association completely turned that around for me. I felt empowered to make a difference here at WVU and inspired to help students just like me, who felt a bit small, find their voice, too. I love this university and this state for all that it has given to me; I want to give back to it!

A fun fact about me is that my favorite superhero is Batman!

I want to run in order to be apart of making our campus a better place. Giving back is something that is really important to me and I want to give back to our campus community which has given so much to me. There is a lot we can improve here at WVU, but the people that make up our student body are both incredible and inspiring.

Devin Price

He / Him / His

At-Large Senator Candidate

My name is Devin Price and I am a double major in history and English from Weirton, West Virginia. I’m a member of WVU’s Student Government Association as both a Senator and the Safety Committee Chair

and also involved with Student Investment Club, Circle K International, and WVU Active Minds. Something to know about me is that my favorite summer activity is serving as a mentor in Energy Express!

As a student who entered WVU during the height of the pandemic, and who has served as a Senator over the past year, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges that our students face on their pathways to academic success. From a failure to address the core-causes of the mental health crisis plaguing our university, to the dangers our students face simply walking around campus, and the obstacles that have gotten in the way of our collective effort to return to normal at WVU, our students have been moving mountains to make the most of their collegiate careers. It’s time for a change!

Jared Icenhower

My name is Jared Icenhower and I am a finance major and business data analytics minor from Jackson, Ohio. On campus, I’m a member of WVU Student Government Association, College Democrats of WVU, Pi Lambda Phi fraternity, and WVU’s Entrepreneurship Club. A fun fact about me is that I can play the piano, guitar, and ukulele!

I want to run as an At-Large Senator because it will give me a platform to serve my fellow students here at WVU. With a focus on combating the mental health issues embedded in our campus and increasing student awareness of COVID-19, I plan to serve my peers to the best of my ability. I am a member of our Mountaineer family and I want to contribute to the improvement of the lives of the people around me.

Laasya Chennuru

On campus, I’m a member of WVU’s Student Government Association, Global Medical and Dental Brigades, Mountaineer Mentors, the Davis College Student Advisory Board, Biochemistry Club in addition to conducting undergraduate research and volunteering at Ruby Memorial. A fun fact about me is that I’ve been to 24/50 states!

Through the SGA Intern Program, I was able to get involved with different committees that have instituted many changes to promote inclusivity, safety, and wellness at WVU. I am running for a Senator position because I want to share my passions and propose initiatives to enhance the student experience. Ultimately, being elected will provide opportunities to collaborate with other driven student leaders and facilitate communication between the student body and higher administration.

Maria Amores

My name is Maria Amores and I am an animal and nutritional sciences major with dual minors in accounting and statistics from Martinsburg, West Virginia. I make it a point to always leave an impact where ever I go. In the past 6 months, I have fallen in love with Morgantown and I am passionate about creating positive change and bettering the university. Running as a Senator with my platform and under the Daniel-Dowler administration will give me the opportunities to give back to the community that means so much to me.
